Laboratories

The MNIT's laboratories contain extensive, large-scale projects and have become centers of exciting discovery for the science and practice of organ transplantation. The MNIT's Serology Laboratory is unmatched in size by any laboratory of its kind in the world and MNIT's Histocompatibility and Genomics laboratories have made immeasurable contributions to organ transplantation research.
Serology

The MNIT Serology and Molecular (Clinical) Laboratory provides testing services 24-hours/365 days a year.  Testing is performed in major specialty areas including chemistry, hematology, serology.  This laboratory is one of the only laboratories in the U.S. to provide this type of specialty testing with results within 6-8 hours.  The Serology and Molecular (Clinical) Laboratory is believed to be the largest of its kind in the world.

Histocompatibility

The MNIT Histocompatibility Laboratory tests donor/recipient pairs for HLA genetic compatibility.  Matching of the donor antigens in the recipient improves chances for long-term graft survival, lowers rejection rates, and lowers incident of infection because of less use of immunosuppression.

Genomics

The research carried out in the MNIT laboratories includes genotyping and gene expression studies.   This research includes design of gene chips, such as the "Alport Syndrome gene chip" and studying the effects of immunosuppressive agents on genes.
