Training Lab Program

Introduction

The MNIT Immunogenetics Lab has been approved by the California Department of Heath Services as a training facility for Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist (CHS).  The program’s mission is to provide high quality training to those seeking a license for traditional and emerging roles as clinical science professionals.  The objective of the training program is to introduce prospective scientists into the intricate field of Histocompatibility, educate them on the principles and concepts of HLA structure and function, emphasize the clinical application of HLA testing, and ensure that they are proficient in performing HLA test techniques.  The program will also include a rigorous QA/QC program and comprehensive safety training.  The program consists of several modules and will entail practical and didactic training, lectures, quizzes, exams and test performance evaluations.

The training program requires 12 months of training at 40 hours per week.  Training takes place during the day shift.  We provide orientation, the scientific background and principles of the HLA tests performed by the laboratory, and training for all equipment and reagents necessary to perform testing, observation and supervised test performance, interpretation and troubleshooting followed by competency evaluations and documentation.  The goal of the program is to thoroughly prepare all trainees to take and pass the ABHI Clinical Histocompatibility Technologist examination and to obtain their California license.
